Our Clean Ingredients Focus
Have you ever checked the back of your shampoo bottle - ever been curious about what you're putting in your hair? We’re sure when you checked there was an insane amount of mumbo-jumbo and big fancy words that make no sense.
Unfortunately, these crazy words are often bad for your hair. Words like sulfates, parabens, and phthalates. (I mean, come on! How do you even pronounce phthalates?) But don’t fret, not all of those words are bad for your hair, and not all fancy words on body wash bottles are bad either, but what if we told you there’s an alternative to these generic bottles? An alternative with ingredients that are so simple you could practically eat them and pronounce them. That is if they weren’t made for your hair and skin.

What Are Clean Ingredients?
First off, these easy-to-read ingredients are known as clean ingredients. If a product is labeled as having clean ingredients, then it means it has the least amount of ingredients possible that are natural, familiar, and easy to recognize and pronounce, with no artificial ingredients or synthetic chemicals. Typically, we hear clean ingredients used to describe food products, and yet here at Surf Soap, we pride ourselves on having clean ingredients - because if an ingredient can be eaten, then it should be just as good for your beauty care. I guess we’re taking “clean ingredients” and turning them into “clean beauty.”
At the core of clean beauty’s meaning, you should be able to use the product without risking your own health. The ingredient list must contain only safe, clean ingredients. So what exactly constitutes clean ingredients? Well, let us introduce you to a few.
Ingredients so Clean They Belong On a Grocery List
When a brand makes an effort to list all ingredients and label accordingly, they’re on the right path to clean beauty. So, to maintain the trust and transparency we’ve built with you all, we would like to introduce you to our awesome clean ingredients. Easily accessible. All in one place.
Clean Ingredients: coconut milk, cupuacu butter, aloe, marshmallow, mango, quinoa
Our Rehab Balm is the queen of leave-in conditioners. Say goodbye to oily hair and split ends, and hello to rejuvenated, salt-free hair. Coconut milk and cupuacu butter provide superior conditioning. Coconut milk contains high levels of Vitamin C which helps maintain the elasticity and flexibility of the skin - so even when Rehab Balm is washed out of your hair and onto your skin there is no harm done. Coconut milk also has extreme moisturizing effects, adding volume, promoting hair growth, and making it less oily. Cupuacu butter has rich nutrients that feed the hair follicles and allow it to grow more healthy hair at a faster rate.
Aloe has a multitude of hair benefits, but just to name a few: it adds soft texture by reducing frizziness, eliminates microbial infections, reduces scalp inflammation, and rejuvenates dry scalp and hair. Marshmallow nourishes and detangles, conditioning dry scalp and hair, and preventing breakage and irritation. Mango enhances hair growth and prevents hair thinning and split ends. Quinoa reduces dandruff, seals split ends, and protects hair from pollution.
And yes, if you head to the grocery store you would find most of these ingredients.

Clean Ingredients: Chlorella, carrot, kale, jojoba oil, olive oil
Muku Milk is the perfect leave-in conditioner for those with finer hair types. Need a detangler? Muku Milk is your girl. Need a shiny finish post-surf? Muku Milk is your new go-to. Chlorella contains nucleic acids, vitamin B12, chlorophyll, and iron which all aid in the health of your hair. Whether you are looking for more shine, thicker strength, or long locks, the health of your hair on a cellular level is the foundation to your hair goals - and chlorella helps with this. Carrot improves overall hair strength and is full of Vitamin A, a nutrient that conditions the scalp. Kale aids in cellular turnover, strengthens strands, hydrates the scalp, eliminates toxins from the scalp and strands, soothes irritation, and boosts hair growth.
Jojoba oil serves as a moisturizer and may be a dandruff remedy. It’s rich in vitamins and minerals that nourish hair, including vitamin C, B vitamins, vitamin E, copper, and zinc. Because it strengthens hair, it is also thought that jojoba oil can prevent hair loss and promote hair thickness. Olive oil adds softness and penetrates the hair shaft to replenish moisture, allowing its preservation.
Clean Ingredients: Aloe, calendula oil, Hawaiian Kukui nut oil, banana
Aloe Cream is the skin’s favorite cocktail of replenishment. Aloe Cream wouldn’t be itself without aloe and its inflammatory properties, support of the production of collagen, and its speed in healing wounds. Aloe also reduces the healing time of burns and soothes sunburn. Calendula oil has antifungal, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties that help with healing wounds, soothing eczema, and relieving diaper rash. It's also used as an antiseptic. Hawaiian Kukui nut oil speeds healing and works to relieve pain. Banana helps to brighten and soften skin, making it supple.
Clean Ingredients: jojoba oil, rosehip oil, prickly pear
Last, but certainly not least, is our Coral Glow - our face oil of wonders that helps the skin bounce back from and prevent sun damage. Jojoba oil is used to moisturize dry skin, fade fine lines and wrinkles, boost skin’s glow, and relieve sunburns. Rosehip oil hydrates, moisturizes, boosts collagen formation, reduces inflammation, and protects skin from sun damage. Lastly, prickly pear is a gentle ingredient that soothes acne-prone, dry, sensitive or inflamed skin. This ingredient also is excellent in age-defying and improving the overall tone and complexion of the skin.
